Concordia is a non-profit organization founded in 1950 by English, German and French youngsters. Their aim was to promote new values of tolerance and peace after the Second World War by organizing international work camps of young volunteers, to encourage international youth exchange as a means of promoting personal development, greater cultural awareness and international understanding.
GENARAL:
For the first time a workcamp will take place in Wallerfangen, a community in the German region Saarland. The community consists of Wallerfangen and 8 smaller villages around with 9.200 inhabitants in total. The territory of Wallerfangen has a rich nature with many opportunities for outdoor activities as hiking, walking, cycling. The project will be to renew the playground of a kindergarten and the primary school in the village of Gisingen.
WORK:
You will arrange the place in another way, set up new playing equipment, create different areas where children can hide for example and also plant some new bushes and do some gardening work. You will be in contact with the children and they might support you from time to time. Work will be demanding in parts and volunteers with experience in manual work are especially welcome. Some other tasks within the community might be possible.
ACCOMODATION:
The group will stay in a community building; details have still to be confirmed.
LOCATION & LEASURE:
Wallerfangen is situated in the west of Saarland directly at the border to France. You can find many interesting places in Wallerfangen: a castle and Roman sites (fountains and mining places) and other cultural and natural sights. The fortified city of Saarlouis is close and you will for sure visit it. Excursions to other interesting places as Saarbrucken or the World heritage Volklingen Ironworks are possible and depend on the interest of the international group. The local villagers are already looking forward to get to know you and to welcome you.
